I recommend calling the pubs just to check the information about the day and times of the exchanges just in case it has changed. My personal recommendations would be J and J's in Malasaña or Cafe Madrid in Opera.
Another really good option is to use loquo.es to find one on one language exchanges. Here you can meet people for a language exchange (always meet in a cafe or some other public space, they are usually very nice people but best to be cautious to begin with). If you enjoy talking to them you can arrange to meet again, if you don't like them then you can just not meet again. This can be a really good way to make English speaking friends.
